What Is eCruisers? Hiliarie Davis Presents Problem-Based Learning Dr. Hiliarie Davis recently presented a two-day workshop for 2008-2009 eCruiser participants. Dr. Davis shared strategies for integrating PBL as a methodology for imparting the Cruiser Safety Curriculum. In addition, she focused on using technology as a tool for allowing student interaction as a part of PBL.
Clemson Elementary School Works to Develop eCruiser Program During the past two years, Clemson Elementary School and Clemson University's Automotive Safety Research Institute have collaborated to develop a professional development laboratory. The lab, housed at Clemson Elementary School, serves educators interested in using technology to enhance instruction of the Cruiser Safety Curriculum. Section Links This site enables users to take photos and turn then into cartoons. Users can create color cartoons or outline versions for others to color. Edutopia is a leading magazine highlighting innovative technology initiatives in the U.S. Clemson Elementary School will be highlighted in the June/Junly 2008 issue. Kaye Carraway will show one school's successful efforts to integrate innovative research-based initiatives that combine theory and practice. The program is a partnership between Clemson Elementary School and the Clemson University Automotive Safety Research Institute's (ASRI) new e-Cruisers program. Using the e-Cruisers youth traffic safety curriculum as a point of departure, teachers engage their students in the use of technologies to create public service announcements, write electronic books, and publish blogs and podcasts related to their studies. In addition, students post writings to an online publishing site that allows for joining digital images and online publishing. Future plans include the addition of video conferencing to the e-Cruisers virtual learning community. Participants who attend this brainshare will hear methods for engaging students in authentic learning experiences, steps to creating iMovie and iDVD projects, and methods for using iWeb to create blogs and podcasts. Kaye will also share opportunities for developing emerging partnerships that support the use of technology, and discuss the impact digital publishing can have on test scores. |
