Read To Succeed, sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks, is a unique recreational reading program, designed by educators, and intended to supplement skill-based reading programs.  The 600-Minute Reading Club is a motivational adjunct to Read To Succeed and provides an exciting incentive to your students to read for fun.
Looking for a good book?  The South Carolina Association of School Librarians compiles recommended reading lists for children, juniors and young adults each year.  These books are chosen from 100-150 titles by teachers media specialists, students, parents, administrators, public librarians, and college or university representatives.
South Carolina: Teaching, Learning, Connecting contains thousands of lesson plans, assessment items and links to curriculum resources.  All of its resources support the stat's standards-based instruction.  Currently, educators can access information on English/language arts, math, science and social studies.  Material can be searched by grade level, subject or type of resource.
The Association for Library Service to Children, which is a division of the American Library Association, publishes a great deal of child-oriented, reading-related material, including Newbery Award Winners, Caldecott Medal Winners and Notable Children's Books.  Also available through the American Library Association is KidsConnect.  The goal of the service is to help students access and use the information available on the Internet effectively and efficiently. Check out this valuable resource.

Country Reports is a subscription site, but there are many free facts about every country in our world. You can find out about a country's geography, population, economy, and flag at this site. Another useful site is the World Factbook through the CIA.
DISCUS is South Carolina’s virtual library, providing an electronic library of essential information and learning resources for all South Carolina Citizens.  DISCUS provides access to newspapers, news updates, magazines, journals, encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference books, directories, maps, almanacs, selected  links to web sites, recommended reading lists, historic documents, government reports and supreme court decisions. Access DISCUS resources from your home Internet account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  To obtain access information, contact your Media Specialist.  Access information cannot be communicated 
by e-mail.
American Library Association: Parent Links. This is a site for parents and those who care about children with links to information about reading and learning.
KidsClick! This fun site is a web search for kids made by librarians; it contains over 5000 sites organized by category.
Yahoo!Kids  An easy-to-use Web Guide for kids ages 7-13, hand selected for appropriateness and sponsored by Yahoo!
Stumped about how to spell a word? What's the correct pronunciation of "incorrigible"? Check out the Merriam-Webster Dictionary online. You can even click on the speaker to hear the word pronounced.
